Dear John,

This is Carolyn M. writing to you from the beautiful shores of Lake Texoma in Oklahoma.  I hope you remember me.  (The palm rose lady).  You all still send me birthday and holiday greetings that always bring a smile.
The reason for my letter is I wanted to share with you Mike (Moore) and I’s true Cinderella story.  It all began when Mike decided to get clean and sober.  He then went to truck driving school and became a successful over the road truck driver.  His new job required him to move to Oklahoma where his father and family lived.  He invited me to follow him but only if I got clean and sober too.  Lord knows I couldn’t do it in Tucson, so it was a no brainer for me to follow and start a new life.  Best decision we ever made, moving to OK.
Life for us took a 180-degree turn.  We started out living in a 5th wheel trailer.  Within 3 years we were able to start buying our own home right on the lake here.  Our car was already bought and paid for too.  We were finally living the good life.  I was finally able to focus on taking care of all my health and physical problems, too.  Life became so good we finally decided to get married.  After being together for 18 years.  It was the only thing left to do to round out our new life.
Unfortunately, our life as a married couple was to be short lived.  Mike became ill while on the road.  He was rushed to the VA hospital in Wichita, KS.  Where they diagnosed him with pleurisy of the lungs and sent him home to let it heal itself, there was nothing else they could do for him.  After 10 days of suffering, Mike got up to go to bed and just collapsed.  Even though the first responders arrived in record time, they were unable to revive him.  Just when everything was going so well too.  Because of his sudden death the medical examiner performed an autopsy.  Come to find out, he had been misdiagnosed at the VA.  The actual cause of death was a blood clot to his lung.  If they would have caught the blood clot they could have prevented his death!  Now my wonderful new life was turned upside down.  Having no means for supporting myself I was forced to file for Social Security, again.  Thank God I had been seeing doctors on a regular basis.  With my new medical records and a quick visit to the Social Security doctors they finally awarded me my benefits.  And it only took 3 months to get their decision.  What a relief.
With that worry off my plate, I could now focus on the matter of Mike’s misdiagnosis.  I was really lucky and found a great wrongful death attorney on the first try.  These people really did their homework.  Imagine my amazement when they informed me, they were going to start off asking for 1.3 million in damages!
After a little deliberating we wound up settling for $700,000, my take home was just under $500,000!  Praise God.  I’m set for life now and will never have to worry again!
Looking back, I realize what an impossible client I had to have been for you.  For this I do apologize.  I was my own worst enemy.  That’s why I wanted to share my story with you although the end was bittersweet.  It may have taken a while but now you can add me to your list of success stories.  Thank you for all the help you’ve given me in the past and thank you for listening.

   With all my esteem

     Sincerely,
